Timeline
1964
Bitmac Ltd was born by introducing the very first hot asphalt batching plant in Malta. The plant could produce 30 tons of hot asphalt every hour.
1974
Ten years later, the hot asphalt plant was replaced by the new ‘Marini’ which could produce 70 tons of hot asphalt every hour.
1976
Soon after Bitmac Ltd introduced the production of rapid breaking bituminous emulsions according to British Standard specifications. An important development was the production of anionic stable bituminous emulsions, which in turn enabled the production of bituminous cold paving mixes.
1982
Here’s where we started to mix it up a bit by introducing the production of internal and external paints as well as rubberized bitumen for waterproofing.
1987
Again it was time for more, so the hot asphalt batching plant was upgraded to the ‘Goodwin Barsby’. This time the plant could produce 100 tons of hot asphalt every hour.
1991
Introduced the first Scarifyer to Malta.
1993
Always on the look-out for improvements, this was the year when the bituminous materials laboratory was upgraded to a fully computerised system decked with all the modern testing technologies available.
1994
It was now time to invest in a slip form paver used for the manufacturing of concrete curbs and gutters resulting in a product of unprecedented finish and strength.
During this year, we also installed 15 x 100 tons storage tanks so that bitumen could be imported via ships rather than purchased in 200 liter drums.
1995
During this big year for the company, Bitmac Ltd started working on various road projects both from the private and Governmental sectors including the Delimara power station, the MIA, the B’kara by-pass, the Lowenbrau Brewery, and the Mater Dei ring road.
1997
This was the year when Bitmac installed 2 x 1400 tons storage tanks for bitumen so that now the total storage capacity went up to 4300 tons.
During this same year we started the production of EPS, colloquially known as Jablo. We produce blocks, sheets, fish boxes and CNC custom cutting.
2010
Bitmac Ltd launched its retail outlet selling building materials such as plasters, waterproofing, tile adhesives, paints, gypsum boards and profiles, insulation products and other construction and finishing materials.
2018
Bitmac Ltd was acquired by new owners and formed the Bitmac Group of companies.
A new Benninghoven asphalt plant with a capacity of 350 tons every hour was installed.
2019
The company invested in the production of DELTABLOC® and worked hard to acquire a CE mark according to EN 1317-5:2007 + A2:2012/AC:2012.
During this year we also gave our retail outlet a facelift and introduced new products to the already vast range of products with plans to grow bigger and better always in the pipeline.
Towards the end of this year, we also upgraded the laboratory with new asphalt, bitumen and concrete testing machines.
2020
As part of our vision to safeguard the environment, this year the company installed a hot bin to the Benninghover asphalt plant. This addition increased the plant’s storage capacity and efficiency which as a result considerably reduces its electricity consumption and produces significantly less emissions.
